We will teach you the factors contributing to the problem and recommend therapeutic stretching, and provide nutritional and lifestyle counselling.
In addition, your chiropractor will determine which of their specialized treatments and methods to help you feel better in the shortest amount of time.
Our Saskatoon chiropractor on 8th Street at Axis Health Center is dedicated to your recovery and overall health and well-being. We will always work to give you the best possible care and help you get back to doing what you love!
During your first visit, our chiropractic doctor will take a thorough history with a physical examination including range of motion tests, reflex testing and orthopedic tests. A surface electromyography test, also known as a “Backscan”, is often completed to check spinal nerve function which determines overall spinal health. If any of these tests indicate further testing is necessary, an X-ray may be requested.
What Are Chiropractic Adjustments?
A quick and specific impulse to the joint to reduce stiffness and nerve pressure
One of the most common therapies used by chiropractors is spinal manipulative therapy (SMT), which can include a variety of different styles and techniques. Most chiropractors use precise adjustments to the spine to restore the natural position of the joints, improve joint motion, and restore overall function. During an adjustment there is often a click heard when the targeted joint is adjusted. The noise is a nitrogen gas being released when the joint moves through full range of motion. The click noise is called “cavitation” which helps maintain the health of the joint that was just adjusted.
A Chiropractic adjustment is a specific impulse directed to specific joints of the spine based of individual patient needs. Our chiropractic adjustments are highly skilled, using precise movements to restore proper alignment and movement. Various body positions are used to perform the adjustments so wearing comfortable clothing that isn’t restrictive is ideal.
The techniques we use include Diversified, Gonstead, Thompson Drop, Chiropractic BioPhysics, Activator instrument, Active Release Therapy, and progressive rehabilitation are used.

What Happens After My Chiropractic Adjustment?
After chiropractic adjustments your spine will loosen and healing begins!
If you’ve never been to a chiropractor before, there are some helpful things to know about the treatment, what you’ll feel afterwards, and some things that will help you recover as well as possible. And of course if you have questions, ask your chiropractor!
- After your first Chiropractic adjustment – you may experience some soreness because your spine has not experienced that treatment before and it’s already the painful area that is bothering you in the first place. This is common and benign so don’t worry! Over the course of your treatment plan it will gradually lessen and you will feel better and better after each treatment.
- How many treatments does my spine need to heal? That depends on how long and how bad your condition is. Most conditions need 2-3 treatments per week for several weeks to begin healing the damaged tissues causing the problem. About 8-12 treatments should resolve most of the problem however, the results may not last unless you maintain some ongoing treatment however, less frequent.
- Can anyone be treated by a chiropractor? Absolutely! It you’ve got a spine you can be treated by a chiropractor and experience the same healthy benefits from a chiropractic adjustment.
- Do chiropractors do more than adjust the spine? Yes! At Axis Health Center our chiropractor adjust the spine and other joints, but also do soft-tissue myofascial release, rehabilitation, concussion therapy, sports injury therapy, and strength and conditioning.
